Paving the way towards personalized medicine

In the article ‘Diagnostic medical technology veering into Star Trek galaxies’, the author discusses some recent advancements in diagnostic imaging, and highlights how these are paving the way towards personalized medicine.

There’s definitely a need for more diagnostic tools as well as documentation tools in medicine. Wound care is one particular field that would greatly benefit from such tools. Indeed, documentation is critical to optimize patient management.

When a chronic wound fails to progress, or respond to treatment over the normal expected healing time frame (4 weeks), it may become “stuck” in the inflammatory phase.  Consequently, measuring wound size and documenting the general status of the wound (such as bacterial load) are important documentation markers for wound care clinicians.
